Il Lombardia U23 will be the final race of the season for Jarno Widar. The Belgian talent from Lotto Dstny Development has chosen the Oggiono race to wrap up a 2024 marked by great successes:
“I’ve had a very good season and I’m proud of what I’ve managed to achieve,” explains the 18-year-old Belgian from Alken. “I aimed to perform well at the Tour de L’Avenir too, but things didn’t go as I wanted last weekend. I was devastated; I raced too much. Two months ago, I told my team that I was racing too much, but they didn’t listen, and this is the result. Now I’ll rest and prepare for the final classics, including Lombardia U23, which means a lot to me. I need to train more and race less.”
Widar, who has won the Giro d’Italia Gen Z, the Giro della Valle d’Aosta, the Tour des Alpes Isère, and the Giro del Limburgo, has decided to focus only on major events from now on and not on smaller races.
“2024 has brought me many satisfactions and great recognition. Expectations for me keep rising. Just because I didn’t win the Avenir doesn’t mean anything. I need to learn from disappointments to grow and perform better. As for the end of this season, I’ll only race the World Championships and Lombardia U23, where I aim to do well.”
